Chateau Pierre-Bise Coteaux du Layon Beaulieu La Soucherie 2007
In the woods, at a Spring Wild Wine Club, we feasted on five courses, finishing off with this delightful sweet wine, served with an orange and cardamom tart.
About the wine: Ethereal and delicate nose of candied tangerines. Great purity and freshness on the attack with beautiful sweet fruit giving balance and structure to the wine.
The Producer: Chateau Pierre-Bise Claude Papin, winemaker and owner of Chateau Pierre-Bise, is a leading light in the Loire and a thoroughly engaging conversationalist to boot. Andrew Jefford calls him a ‘poet of Chenin Blanc,’ and Jancis Robinson MW refers to him as ‘one of the most talented wine growers in this part of the world, a true vine technician.’

This is a sweet and concentrated wine with complex marzipan, burnt honey and dried apricot aromas and flavours. It is rich and mouth-filling with a refreshing citrusy twist on the end.
